Sexuality and the Politics of Violence (2013)

Bev Skeggs

Sexuality and the Politics of Violence by Les Moran and Beverley Skeggs (Routledge) uses interviews, focus groups and surveys with lesbians and gay men in a study of violence and safety strategies in the north of England, Manchester's gay village and Lancaster's traditional townscape. It draws on insights from feminism, lesbian and gay studies, sociology, cultural geography, criminology and critical legal scholarship. The book challenges traditional ways of understanding and responding to violence. It breaks new ground in its examination of the rhetoric and politics of violence, property and propreity, the in/significance of home, cosmopolitanism and stranger danger in the generation of safety and security.
